The exhibition, entitled Poetic Encounter, opens in Aljustrel, september 12th 2014 and will be followed by a conversation with the artist, hosted by Álvaro Lobato de Faria, dir. MAC Lisbon. António Carmo was born in 1949. He studied Paintig at the School of Decorative Arts Arroio António in Lisbon. Portuguese traditions and ethnographic themes are always present in the works of this painter, born in Madragoa, in full Old Lisbon. In forty years of career was also devoted to the illustration of articles in newspapers and books of Portuguese authors. It is currently exclusive artist of Japan Arts Bank and Galerie Albert I in Brussels. Throughout a forty-five year career, António Carmo has “been an uncompromising investigator of the truths and interior freedom, always changing – while remaining essentially true to himself (…) His art shows a close relationship with the body, with the body of things (…) António Carmo traces the outline, performs the movement, embodies the idea in a single pictorial imagination “as Álvaro Lobato Faria writes in the brochure of the exhibition. MAC – Lisbon announces the opening of a new individual art show by painter Roberto Chichorro entitled “Circus and other carnival things”. The exhibition may be visited in Lisbon until May 30th 2013. Roberto Chichorro was born in 1941 in Lourenço Marques. He devoted himself to Painting expressing old stories magic that he was hearing, related to worlds of wonders, terrors and witchcraft, and also animals, music and laughter. Chichorro constantly paint his boy memories and do it with a very colorful palette where parodied Chagall`s scenarios opening the look to the intensity of a magical world, almost weightless, floating. He worked as designer and as a decorator hall for international fairs in Mozambique and illustrated several books. From 1982/85 had a scholarship from Spanish Government in Madrid for ceramics work (with Taller Blue) and zincography (with Oscar Manezzi). In 1986 had a scholarship from Portuguese Government, living in Portugal since then and devoting himself exclusively to Painting.
